He started university in Grenoble, France and then in Paisley, Scotland where he obtained a joint French/English BSc in Chemistry in 2011. As he couldn’t stand the rain anymore, he settled in Toulouse to complete his MSc at the University Paul Sabatier. During these years he first worked with Pr Jonathan R. Nitshcke for an internship at the University of Cambridge, and then under the supervision of Dr Gilles Alcaraz, within the research group of Pr Sylviane Sabo-Etienne for his final year project focused on the metallocatalysed activation of (2-cyanoaryl)aminoboranes.

In October 2013 Charly started his PhD under the supervision of Pr Paul G. Pringle at the University of Bristol, taking part in the Marie Curie project SusPhos. He mainly focuses on the use of PH3 as a potential replacement for phosphorous halides in the synthesis of new phosphine ligands. These ligands being designed for new industrial catalytic systems, in collaboration with DSM.
